When you pull the plunger, the “other half” of the numbers moves to match – but only to one point. Arcade1Up can be done with a simple button, but this feels more real. I also like to use the spring loaded plunger to fire the ball. However, fake coin gates are more convincing if they are used in conjunction with fake coin returns. The machine remembers where you last left the volume, and unless you need to mute in a late-night session, you might set it and forget it. The volume rocker feels a little mushy, but you probably won’t interact much with it. The imitation coin door is a nice touch and a great place to put the buttons you need to interact with the menu, as well as the volume and power controls. You can find some very simple mods (which I’ll cover later) to change the position of the solenoid to fix that. I wish Arcade1Up had something more powerful, and I’m not alone. To give that “real flipper” feel, Arcade1Up put a bunch of solenoids inside the box to provide some feedback when you hit the flippers or the ball hits other objects in the game. There’s nothing special about the “flip” buttons, but they get the job done. External hardware is great Josh HendricksonĪrcade1Up’s cabinets feel like a real pinball machine in terms of artwork and materials, well done. It’s a tough decision whether Miracle or star wars The artwork is better, both are great, I doubt you’ll gravitate towards the setting you prefer.I cannot directly communicate with Attack from Mars system, but the picture suggests something more bland and unremarkable. This is important because you may need to use a computer to apply firmware updates or replace parts if they fail (more on that later). It was so heavy and unwieldy that I almost fell off it.Ī nice addition is that when the main case is assembled, you can still take it apart. While you’ll see myself flipping the whole unit, don’t be like me: ask for help. You’ll need the main case’s glass side down to attach the legs, so I’d recommend laying out a blanket so you don’t scratch the system. Your job is to build the top box that houses the speakers and DMD (dot matrix display), connect the wiring between the two boxes, and attach the legs. The main “box” containing the glass, display and computer has been assembled. You don’t even have to build the whole thing. We’ve always praised Arcade1Up for designing cabinets that are easy to assemble, and still do. The good news is that putting cabinets together is an easy (if not tedious) affair. Buy yourself a small car and maybe have a second person on hand. The bad news here is that the box is super heavy. It’s not an Arcade1Up enclosure unless you need to do some assembly. Arcade1Up kindly sent two comment units, Miracle variants and star wars Version.we failed to test Attack from Mars machines, but in terms of hardware, they are all functionally identical. It’s probably for the best, though, since real pinball machines are notoriously difficult to maintain. Instead, you’ll be staring at the monitor and playing a pinball game created by Zen Studios. You won’t find moving parts or real balls under the plexiglass. The first thing you need to know about Arcade1Up’s pinball machines is that they are digital, not real entertainment.
